Guernsey

The Historic Georgian Guernsey Farmhouse was insensitively modernised and extended in the late 20thC. We were commissioned to restore the character of the house and to work closely with the Garden Designer Dan Pearson to restore a sense of integrity to the entire site.

The principle adopted was to demolish the unsympathetic extensions that were carried out to the house in the late 1980’s in order to reinstate the relationship between the main farmhouse and the old farm buildings. New structural glass extensions have been built which are to maintain a ‘glazed’ link between the main house and the farm buildings and to provide a new swimming pool enclosure. The new extensions do not visually interfere with the solid granite existing buildings and the theory is to clearly define the differing archaeology of the buildings.

Within the interior, the building was remodelled and the attic converted to provide additional bedroom accommodation. All the joinery was replaced with Georgian detailed versions to include new windows, shutters, doors and the concrete cantilevered staircase was replaced for a joinery version.
