Grade II* Corn Mill
Prior to the planning application for the change of use from industrial to residential, The Corn Mill set in the Yorkshire Dales was a deteriorating redundant building of mid 18th century construction with 19th century alterations, whilst being an important example of Northern millwrighting practice retaining the basic machinery of a traditional water powered, under-driven flour mill, which earnt it Grade II* status.
The Mill has now been given a new lease of life and whilst preserving the original machinery and character, all the alteration and repair work to the Mill was designed and at the same time implemented with specific conservation policies which were developed by the architect to facilitate the alteration of the East and South Wing’s of the Mill to provide living accommodation.
The client has benefited from adapting a deteriorating redundant building to provide a totally unique ‘second home’ with a distinctive character and timeless quality.
This project was Shortlisted for the RIBA White Rose Awards For Design Excellence, 2001
